Please Act Now and Register for the Tucson Men's Conference!

Brothers,

Please act now and register for the Tucson Men’s Conference!

For many years now the Diocese of Phoenix has hosted a Catholic Men's Conference.  This conference has been a day for all Catholic men in the area to come together to be inspired and to be renewed in their Catholic Faith.  This event has always been well attended by men not only from the Diocese of Phoenix but by those from the Dioceses of Tucson and Gallup, as well.

This year the Diocese of Tucson will be hosting its first Catholic Men's Conference.  There will be challenging testimonials from local men and opportunities to receive the sacrament of confession.  We will close the day by celebrating Holy Mass with Most Reverend Gerald Kicanas, D.D., Bishop of Tucson.  We encourage you to join us for a day of inspiring presentations and fellowship.  We also encourage you to invite any Catholic man (brother, son, brother-in-law, friend, neighbor, etc…) that you may know to join you.  This Conference has made an amazing difference in the lives of many of the men who have attended it in the past and is sure to make an impact on yours.

The event will be emceed by KOLD News 13 Sports Director Damien Alameda.
Guest speakers include:
The Most Rev. Gerald Kicanas (Bishop of Tucson)
Most Rev. Ricardo Ramirez, C.S.B., D.D. (Bishop Emeritus of Las Cruces)
Mr. Peter Herbeck (Renewal Ministries and Vice President and Director of Mission)
Music will be provided by Tom Booth, who wrote and sings our current State Theme “I will choose Christ, I will choose love, I choose to serve.”

This Conference will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (SEAS) Catholic Parish, 8650 N. Shannon Rd, Tucson, AZ 85742, on 22 November 2014.  The Conference starts at 9:30 AM and ends at 4:00 PM.  Registration begins at 8:00 AM but we encourage you to register early so the Conference Team will have an accurate count of attendees in order to have the exact amount of lunches, shirts and give away items (donated by local businesses).

2014 Mid Year Meeting

UPDATED - 11/4/14
Brothers,

Please share this email with your wives, if they are planning to attend the 2014 Arizona State Council’s Mid-Year Meeting on December 5, 6, & 7, 2014, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Attached please find the registration and agenda information for the weekend.

At the Mid-Year Meeting on Saturday December 6, we will be praying the Rosary, from 8:00AM to 8:15AM. All Brother Knights, their wives, and guests are welcome to pray the Rosary with us. Immediately following the conclusion of the Rosary, the ladies will depart the council hall for the Ladies’ Program.

This year’s Ladies Program will be a fun service project which promises to bring Christmas joy to many Senior Citizens living in two Senior Homes in the Lake Havasu City area. We anticipate there to be a total of 79 residents at the two homes they will be visiting. (Note: Ladies will be split into two groups.) There will also be a great restaurant lunch where the ladies will join back together and share their experiences from the morning. Then, time permitting; there will be an opportunity for shopping.

Here is an agenda for the Ladies program:
Wrap Gifts
[if !supportLists]·         [endif]8:15 AM        The ladies, with their gifts, (details regarding gifts further down), leave the KofC Hall and drive to Our Lady of the Lake Parish Hall. The host council will provide drivers, or they can drive themselves if they like.

10:00 AM      Arrive at homes and participate in the activities listed below for about 1 ¾ hours

  • Drinks & cookies/snacks

As part of the Service Project, we are asking our ladies to purchase Christmas gifts for the seniors. Please find the gift registry information below. Again, it is not required that a gift be purchased, however it would be helpful. Please be as generous as you can and consider purchasing more than one gift, if possible. Brothers,

Due to overwhelming demand, the Quality Inn & Suites, the host’s hotel for the 2014 State Mid-Year Meeting, has sold out of non-smoking rooms. They still have smoking rooms, as well as suites.

We have secured a block of 15 non-smoking rooms at the Motel 8, near the Council Hall, at the rate of $59.00 plus tax. The rooms are not as nice as the Quality Inn, but they are clean, reasonably priced, and non-smoking. Please contact the hotel for your reservations. The deadline for this rate is October 24, 2014.

Black Friday Dinner at St. Vincent de Paul

Brother Knights,

On Friday, November 28, 2014, we have been asked to help serve Dinner at St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, located at 420 W. Watkins Road, Phoenix, AZ.  This meal is better known as the "Family Meal". Call time is 3:30pm and Dinner time is from 4:00pm to 6:30pm (usually finish up between 6:00-6:15pm).  As you can see This date and time will not be interfering with you and your family's Thanksgiving meal on Thursday.  We are in need of 20 people to help out at dinner time.  The St Vincent de Paul staff will provide/schedule volunteers for the family evening meal.  Not only dinner will be served, but we will be donating approximately 300 coats for needy children and twenty-five adult wheelchairs.  All of the coats and wheelchairs were arranged by our State Deputy Larry Becker and Former District Master Mike Kingman!   So the first twenty (20) people who sign up will get the opportunity to help distribute the coats and wheelchairs!  We anticipate many will want to help out in this project, but we only will have room for the first twenty volunteers!  This is the season to help those in need and we can't think of a better way to help the needy.  We are blessed to have what we have and it is great that we can make other feel the same.

Also on November 28th we will need six (6) people from 3:00 to 6:30pm at the St Vincent de Paul Dining Room in Downtown Phoenix (9th Avenue and Jackson) to help make pizzas!  Call time will be 2:45pm.  Once again, There will be many who will be volunteering to help out making pizzas but we will take the first six (6) people who signs up!

Councils, this will be a great opportunity to add or fulfill your Community Activity for the month of November.  And to let you know, this is not just for Phoenix and its surrounding cities and towns, but this invitation goes out to Tucson and Flagstaff and their surrounding cities and towns.   We will be accepting the first 26 qualified people to help serve dinner and make pizzas..  In order to be eligible to work the dinner, a person will be at least 8 years old (8-14 must be accompanied by parent/guardian) but NO sign affidavits are required.

So as you can see, these can be family activities with family member(s) helping out, which equates to be a fun events.  So if you volunteer please wear conservative comfortable clothing with closed in shoes.   Come out and help us on November 28, 2014.  Don't wait to sign up, these slots will fill up fast!!

I am the contact person for this activity and my contact information is below.  I await your response.

Yours in Christ.

State Deputy Message - November 2014

November 1, 2014
Brothers,
As Americans, we have so much to be thankful for, especially for our freedom! The Bill of Rights guarantee all Americans basic freedoms; freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of petition, the right to bear arms, “No Quartering” right, the right to equal justice, the right to own private property, freedom to live or travel anywhere in our nation, freedom to work at any job for which we can qualify, freedom to marry and raise a family, freedom to receive a free education in good public schools, and freedom to join a political party, a union, and other legal groups . The first freedom, guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, is the freedom of religion. This right is guaranteed in the First Amendment, guarantees to all Americans the right to practice any religion they choose. Freedom has even more meaning to a Knight of Columbus. We use charity to help free people from suffering. Supreme Knight Carl Anderson says, “It is not simply that what we give helps free people from hunger, cold, homelessness and poverty. Charity is essential to the very idea of freedom, because charity creates a bond among us that makes freedom possible.”
During the Thanksgiving weekend, the Arizona State Council will be conducting a service project at St. Vincent de Paul, in Phoenix. This will involve preparing and serving dinner to families in need, distributing 25 wheelchairs, and more. Here is a great opportunity for you and your council to provide charitable service to our community.
On December 5, 6, and 7, 2014, the Arizona State Council’s Mid-Year Meeting is being held in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. All District Deputies are required to attend. Grand Knights and other Council member are invited to Saturday’s meeting, Mass, and dinner. You can find the registration information on the State’s website.
Plan to participate in a Christmas parade to help “Keep Christ in Christmas”. Here are two parades you may want to join: the “Hometown Christmas Parade”, in Glendale, at 11:00AM on Saturday December 13, 2014, and the “Downtown Parade of Lights”, in Tucson, at 6:30PM, on Saturday December 20, 2014. All Councils and Assemblies in Arizona are welcome to participate in these parades. We need to focus on Christ’s birth and celebrate the true “Star” of Christmas.
It is our moral obligation to grow and strengthen our councils with new members. New members help to secure your council’s future by developing new leaders to continue the good work you are doing today. Every Brother Knight in Arizona needs to recruit a new member now. This will strengthen charity the Order in Arizona to better support our freedoms and the Catholic Church.
Remember that by living our State theme, “I will choose Christ, I will choose love, I choose to serve”, you and your council will exemplify our four principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. With this, your current members and your new members can be a strong force in your council, Church, family, and community.
Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving! Vivat Jesus!
