Bishop's Dinner 2016 - Scouting

Office of the State Deputy

August 10, 2016

Dear Worthy Grand Knight,

On behalf of the Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Phoenix I would like to extend to you their following message. Please make this invitation available to your membership.

You, your youth director, and other officers are cordially invited to attend the “Bishop’s Dinner 2016—Celebrating Our Call to Reverence” at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1730 W. Guadalupe Rd. on Thursday, September 15, 2016.  Please join our guest of honor, Bishop Eduardo A. Nevares-Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix, and the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Committee on Scouting (PhxDCCS) for a special evening of fun and fellowship.  Appetizers will be served beginning at 5:30 pm, with the opening ceremony at 6:15 pm and dinner at 6:30 pm.

The dinner is being held to honor adult leaders for their efforts and support of Catholic Scouting, recognize top youth in the scouting programs and to provide awareness of the programs and activities of the national and diocesan Catholic Scouting committees.  The evening’s agenda will include several guest speakers and showcase the committee’s religious retreats, emblems and activities programs, and Eagle Scout projects benefiting the community. Recognition will be presented to adults who demonstrate exemplary service in support of Catholic Scouting programs.

The diocesan committee is inviting Knights of Columbus officers, Catholic Scout leaders, pastors, clergy, youth ministers, Catholic Eagle Scouts and Gold Award recipients, and others interested in Catholic Scouting to join us for an evening celebrating the best in the Catholic Scouting program.  It is my hope that at least one officer from every Knights council in the Diocese of Phoenix will be present at this dinner to learn more about the programs available to our Catholic Scouts and how the Knights can continue to support their efforts.  Since the first tenet of the Scout Oath is Duty to God and the 12th part of the Scout Law is reverence, what better way to reinforce those values than to help guide our Scouts to learn more about our Catholic faith?

Invitations are being sent to pastors as well. Perhaps your council would consider extending an invitation to pay for the pastor’s dinner and offer to escort him to the event.  If your parish has a Scout unit, you may want to coordinate with the unit committee to sponsor the pastor, deacon or youth minister.   A special rate for groups of eight is offered.  Reservations can be made by visiting www.phxdccs.org and registering online with your payment through PayPal, or mail the registration form to the address indicated on the form.
