St. Joseph Assembly #2126 proudly announces; The Tenth Annual Public Safety Appreciation Dinner and Blue Mass will be held on Saturday, April 20 at St. Helen Catholic Church. The church is located at 5510 W. Cholla (55 ave & north of Peoria). We will be honoring the Police Officers and Firefighters from Glendale, Peoria and Luke Air Force Base. The keynote speaker will be the Honorable Mayor of Glendale, Jerry Weiers. A special “Blue Mass” will be celebrated in honor of all of our First Responders, and all the celebrants and servers will be Knights. The mass begins at 5:30pm, with social hour from 6:30pm and dinner at 7:30pm. Tickets are available from members or the St. Helen’s gift shop. Tickets are priced at $25 each or $20 for those in uniform. We continue to seek advertisers for our program and raffle prizes. K of C Charity Raffle Update #4
There is a very good reason so many Bud Light commercials are on TV during sports events. Marketing people know that the more you hear a product name the more likely you will buy the produce. The same is true for the Charity Raffle.
Attached is a document, ‘Information for Brother Knights’ that included motivational charts and tables. It is best to share this information one page at a time over the next couple of months. However, you decide how and when you give your members the material. The more members know about the raffle, the better job they will do raising money for charity.
Page 8 of this document lists ‘Best Practices’. These items were due in January and February. However, there is still time to do these things. It is better to do them late than not at all.
State Goal is $250,000. Stretch goal is $253,600. [If we reach our stretch goal, every council that sells one of the ten winning tickets receives a $500 bonus. See Sales Incentives on page 14 of the 2013 Sales Guide.]
The total sales as of today are $9,115 which is 3.6% of our state goal.

Law and Honor Dinner - May 10 - Carefree
The Law and Honor Dinner hosted by Assembly 2833 on May 10.
Concert to Benefit Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration
The Chief Judge John M. Roll Chapter of the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a piano concert featuring accomplished concert pianist William Gilman for the benefit of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration at St Augustine Cathedral on February 23, 2013.
This is the first of a series of annual concerts planned by the Tucson Knights of Columbus to benefit charitable causes in southern Arizona. It is an opportunity for interested donors together with Knights and their families, music lovers and fans of the Benedictine Sisters to listen to selections from the music of Franz Lizst and Fredric Chopin by Sir Knight William (Bill) Gilman our distinguished classical pianist.
Sir Knight Gilman is a Tucson winter guest and member of the Knights of Columbus who has graciously donated his talent, time and effort to the planning of this effort over the last two years. As a student of the life and 19th century music of Franciscan monk Franz Liszt, Mr. Gilman will tell us this famous catholic musician’s zest for life, his failings, and quest for God.
William Gilman studied music at the Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle, Washington and graduated with a degree in music at Centralia College. He went on to The Evergreen State College to earn a degree in Computer Science and Labor Studies. After retiring in 2001 from the State of Washington, he earned his Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies at Seattle University and became a Catholic Chaplain working in the Washington State prisons and a hospital Chaplain in Olympia. While in the US Army, he worked on several musicals with the USO in Germany.
St Augustine Cathedral provides a unique venue for this presentation of classical piano and the opportunity to meet and share views and ideas with invited dignitaries, our hierarchy of officers and clergy in an informal reception following the performance. The address for the Cathedral is 192 S. Stone Avenue, Tucson AZ 85701.
The concert presentation begins at 7 PM with one intermission and ends at 9 PM. Seating is open. Ticket donations are $15.00 per person on a first-come-first-serve basis and limited to 1500 seats.

State Deputy Bryant Sayers and I had a great meeting on January 22, 2013 with Tim Martin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Special Olympics Arizona. Amongst other things we discussed our continued support for the Special Olympics Arizona and the best process for us to make donations to his organization.
Mr. Martin advised us that there are only 51 official Special Olympic 501c3 organizations in the United Sates. There is one for each State in the USA, as well as Puerto Rico. The local Special Olympic organizations all work within their State’s organization. Only the State level organization has a bank account. All funds for Special Olympics must go through the State Organization. They, in turn, keep track of funds donated to each community and supplies funds to them upon their request.
We expressed to Mr. Martin that our subordinate councils throughout Arizona want to make donations to support the activities happening in their local communities. He advised us to write all checks to “Special Olympics Arizona” and earmark the local activity in the Memo Line of the check.
Going forward, all checks written by the Arizona State Council for State and/or subordinate council’s PWID or other donations, to any Special Olympics organization in Arizona, will be written to “Special Olympics Arizona” and earmarked with the local activity in the Memo Line of the check. The subordinate council can request the original check be sent to the council, so they can present it to the local Special Olympic group. Otherwise, the original check will be sent directly to the Special Olympics Arizona headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona and a copy of the check will be sent to the council as proof of the check being written.
We assured Mr. Martin that the Arizona Knights of Columbus will continue to support Arizona Special Olympics at the State and local level. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with this organization.
