Brothers,
Lent is a season when Catholics
focus on simple living, prayer, and fasting in order to grow closer to God. Lent
is a great time to "repent", return to God, and re-focus our lives to
be more in line with Jesus. It's a 40 day trial run in changing our lifestyles
and letting God change our hearts. We might try one of these practices for
Lent:
·
Fasting: Some people have been known to go without
food for days. But that's not the only way to fast. We can fast by cutting out
some of the things in our lives that distract us from God. We can give
up some activity like worry or reality TV to spend time outside enjoying God’s
creation.
·
Service: Some Catholics take something on for Christ.
We
can commit to help a stranger, co-worker, or friend everyday of Lent. Serving
others is one way we serve God.

Prayer: Catholics also use Lent as a time of
intentional prayer.
During this Lenten season, brother
Knights in Arizona have several ways to fast, serve, and pray. “40 Days for
Life” is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power
through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion. There are numerous
campaigns happening throughout Arizona from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday. You
are strongly encouraged to participate in these campaigns. Many councils and
parishes have campaign dates already set. Please sign up for a block of time to

We can serve others by bringing
Catholic men and their families closer to Christ by asking them to join our
Order. March 29th is Founder’s Day, which marks the day when
Connecticut approved the charter of the Knights of Columbus in 1882. To
commemorate this, Supreme is asking every council in the entire Order is asked
to conduct a Church Membership Drive and a 1st Degree
exemplification during March. Your
Church Drive should focus on inviting men to join us in our service to the
Church. Your District Deputy is available to help and support you with this. He
will be asking you for your commitment for a successful drive.
Supreme Knight Carl Anderson says,
“I believe our saintly founder sees into the hearts of his brother Knights
today. One hundred years from now, he will not be surprised by what his brother
Knights continue to accomplish.” This March, let’s make Father McGivney’s dream
our own. Let’s continue his mission of building our Order stronger to serve our
Church, protecting Catholic families, and bring men closer to Christ. After
all, it’s part of what being a Knight is all about.
Remember that by living our State
theme, “I will choose Christ, I will choose love, I choose to serve”, you and
your council will exemplify our four principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity,
and Patriotism. With this, your current members and your new members can be an
enormous force for good in your council, Church, family, and community.
