State Deputy Message - March 2016

Brothers,

Earning the Star Council Award, is an important step in building the domestic church, while strengthening our parish. This is an excellent step to illustrate your commitment of charity, unity, and fraternity to your family, your friends, and your Catholic faith community. Setting objectives are important to reach a goal. As State Deputy, I have set goals to grow the Order in the Arizona jurisdiction, in a quality manner, with relevant programs to attract and retain our members and families. With this, our goals include the Arizona jurisdiction earning the Supreme Circle of Honor Award and having at least 45 councils earn Star Council Awards. This can’t just happen. We have to make it happen. Here are a few tips to help us obtain this goal:

●  Look at it - A goal that you can actually see is massively more powerful when you can visualize it. Use the Star Council Award posters and aids in your meetings to show your members the goal.

●  Tell people - Be open with your goals and descriptive in what you are aiming to accomplish. This sets a positive motivation in your council member’s minds that they can really earn this award.

●   Break it up - Many people abandon goals because they’re just too big. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! Plan several membership drives and bring a few new members at a time into the council. Plan 24 activities to cover the programs needed. Have your Field Agent attend all your council meetings so he is ready and available to talk with your members. Have your Financial Secretary submit the necessary forms on time, throughout the year. 

●  Set a date - One of the best ways to knock out a goal is to put it on your calendar. If you put a stake in the ground and impose a date on yourself, you’re much more likely to reach it. Use the Fraternal Planner to help plan your goals.

●  Be realistic - Simple but true…you’re more likely to reach goals that you realistically set for yourself. You don’t need to set goals to earn a 5 or 6 Star Council Award. Plan to obtain all you need for a single Star, then maybe if all things are adding up, you might make a multiple Star Council Award.

●  Commit to yourself - Last but not least, there’s only one group in this goal-setting process that matters. You and your council. You’re the ones who have to do the work to earn this award. You’re the ones receiving the award and earning the praise of your parish, plus the Supreme incentive of $4.50 per billable member. It’s all on you. Commit to yourself and then re-commit yourself each time you fall (because that definitely happens along the way).

Big News! Fatima Women Center 4-D Ultrasound Machine

Brothers,

 

Great news! Today, Fatima Women Center received the matching fund check from Supreme for their 4-D Ultrasound machine. 

 

I spoke with Kelly Copeland today. He very excited and said that the machine is about 10 days away from being delivered. The center has spoken with the Diocese of Tucson about a blessing ceremony when the machine is operational and ready to be used. We should expect an invite for an event to be held in the next few weeks or so. I would like to have a 4^th Degree Call Out at the center that day. I would also like to make it a huge Knights, presence at the ceremony in Tucson. This is a big deal! Please feel free to pass this message on.

 

Again, thank you to our State 4-D Ultrasound Initiative Project Chairman Ron Cacini, Henry Armstrong, the MBC Foundation, Council 9800, and to all the Brothers, Councils and Assemblies who generously donated towards this great cause.

 

We will be helping to save many, many lives! Praise be to God!

Knights in Action - 11855

   Worthy State Chaplain, Father Patrick Crino, and Knights of Columbus Council 11855, support the scouts of Saints Peter
and Paul Parish, Troop 155 Tucson, on Scout Sunday, celebrating the Scouts' 106th birthday on February 8, 2016. Many of the adult scout leaders are Knights.

   The first pastor of SS Peter and Paul, Father Joseph Patterson, got Boy Scout Troop 155 started in 1931.  Father John Lyons, pastor before Fr. Pat, was a student at SS Peter and Paul in the 1960s and was also a member of Troop 155. 

   Fr. Crino thanked the Boy Scouts and their families for their contributions to the parish and school, including three Eagle Scout projects; a Prayer Garden, a Flagpole, and a new concrete sidewalk.

Brothers,

As you are aware, our mission is to build the domestic church, while strengthening our parish. In doing this, we are helping our pastors and priests in their ministry to bring our faith community closer to God. The number one thing we can do to meet this objective is to grow the Order. With more men and their families in the Knights of Columbus, you and your council will be better fortified to help our parish grow stronger. Congratulations to the councils listed below for already meeting and/or exceeding their 2015-2016 Supreme membership recruitment quotas! These councils are doing everything they can to strengthen their parish! They are well on their way to earning the Star Council Award. 

So far during this fraternal year, of the 145 councils in Arizona, we have 41 who have not recruited a single new member. Of these councils, 11 of them did not recruit any new members last fraternal year, either. Your District Deputy, State Membership Chairman Kevin McCarthy, State Officers, and I are here to help these councils and all the councils in Arizona to grow and prosper. 

The Arizona Knights of Columbus 2015-2016 fraternal year’s theme is “Find Us Ready Lord”. This year’s theme deals with the Destiny of Man and how we prepare ourselves for our final reward and attain the joys of heaven. We can prepare with Service, Prayer, Charity, Unity, Fraternity, & Patriotism.  We need to build our Order stronger so together we can work to combat the evil lurking in our world today. Please pray the Prayer of St. Michael the Archangel at the end of every meeting and gathering. Satan is destroying our society and Church while working on every family, man, woman, and child to not follow the teachings of our Catholic Church. We must keep our councils and assemblies strong to fight this battle and defend everything we know as good. Please pray that St. Michael will protect us and our Lord will guide us so we will remain victorious and continue to build our Church with service and faith.

2016 Knights of Columbus State Convention

Dear Brother Knights and Friends of the Knights of Columbus,

It’s that time of the year again and the Knights of Columbus annual Arizona State Convention is just around the corner. The convention is scheduled for May 20-22, 2016. It will be held at Casino Del Sol Resort, located in Tucson, Arizona. You will find all the new updates and information listed below. The convention website is completely redesigned and easy to use. New for 2016 is that all registration and payment can be done online. No forms need to be filled out or sent in.

Registration:For registration, visit the convention website at www.azkofcstateconvention.org and select “Register Now”. You can also purchase your Advance Event Tickets and 2016 Convention Polo Shirts. Those who require disability assistance or who have any dietary restrictions, please note them in the Additional Information section on the checkout page. Credit card payments can only be made directly online. For Check payment, simply register on line and select the Check option. An email will be sent to confirm your registration. Simply print the confirmation and mail it along with your payment to the address listed on the email. The Registration form can still be downloaded and printed out and filled in manually if preferred. Then, mailed to the address listed on the form along with your payment.

Registration information and payment must be received no later than May 3, 2015.  Additional $10 will be assessed for Registration received after May 3, 2015.

Hotel:Hotel accommodations must be made by the individual directly. Reservations can be made from the convention website: www.azkofcstateconvention.org. Instructions are given from the Hotel Information page. We have negotiated a Standard room rate of $109 per night plus tax. Refer to the Hotel Information page for additional room upgrade options. Rooms may also be booked from the hotel website: www.casinodelsolresort.com. Use offer code Knights to receive your discounted rate. Special Access rooms are available upon request.

Hospitality Suites:
There are a limited number of suites available for hospitality rooms. You will not be allowed to book a hospitality suite directly through the hotel. Please contact the Convention Chairman, Ken Gallagher at telephone (520) 661-1262 or email at registration@azkofcstateconvention.org for assistance in reserving one.

Convention Advertising:
Advertising in the Arizona State Convention Program Book is still available. Please visit the convention website at www.azkofcstateconvention.org and select “Buy Advertising”. Advertising can also be purchased directly online. Simply purchase desired ad space on line and use Checkout. Credit card payments can only be made online. For Check payment, simply purchase desired ad space and select the Check option. An email will be sent to confirm your purchase. Simply print the confirmation and mail it along with your payment to the address listed on the email. Email your ad to advertising@azkofcstateconvetion.org. The preferred format for submission of advertising is a high resolution PDF file. But will accept other forms as well (JPG, AI, or EPS files). All advertising must be submitted no later than April 22, 2016.
